Vernon Smith was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2002 for his pioneering work in the field known as experimental economics. The integrating character of this approach to the discipline created by him has earned recognition from various economic schools.
Dr. Smith is the author or co-author of over 350 articles and books on capital theory, finance, natural resource economics, and experimental economics. He is a member of the editorial board American Economic Review, The Cato Journal, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organisation, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, Science, Economic Theory, Economic Design, Games and Economic Behavior and Journal of Economic Methodology.
In addition, he has been president of the Public Choice Society, the Economic Science Association, the Western Economic Association, and the Association for Private Enterprise Education, as well as having been elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 1995.
